This site is made and run by one person. It has no cookies, no analytics, no advertising, no accounts and no mailing list software. Nothing you do here is measured, and nothing about you is sold, shared or handed to anybody. What follows is the specific, complete version of that, including the places where your browser does talk to somebody other than me, because there are a few and you should know which.

Cookies
There are none. Not one, of any kind, first party or third. No consent banner appears on this site because there is nothing to consent to, and a banner that asks permission for cookies that do not exist is theatre.
The film used to sit behind a code, which set a single sign-in cookie. That was removed on 19 September 2026 when the film was opened to everybody, and the cookie went with it.
What is kept in your browser
Two settings are saved in your own browser's local storage so the site behaves the way you left it. They never leave your device, they are not sent to me or to anyone else, and I cannot read them.

Clearing your browser's site data for 288days.com deletes both. Nothing breaks if you do.
Where your browser talks to somebody else
Every page on the web is assembled from more than one place, and each place your browser fetches from necessarily sees your IP address and which browser you are using. That is how the web works rather than a choice I made, but here is exactly who, and for what. None of them are advertising or analytics companies, and none of them are paid by me or paying me.

The address lookup, which is the one to read
On the map you can type an address and be told what stood on that spot in 1915. To do that, the address has to be turned into coordinates, and that is done by Nominatim, a public service run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. So:
- The address you type is sent to
nominatim.openstreetmap.org, along with your IP address, because your browser is the thing making the request. - It is not sent to me. It is not stored on this site, not written to any log of mine, and not associated with you in any way, because there is no account and no identifier to associate it with.
- Everything after that, working out which palace or court covered the spot and how far it is from the Tower of Jewels, happens inside your browser.
- The OpenStreetMap Foundation's own privacy policy governs what they do with it. They keep query logs for a limited period to run the service.
If you would rather not send your address anywhere, do not use the lookup: pan the map to your block instead and click it. You get the same answer and nothing leaves your browser.
Search
The search on this site runs entirely inside your browser against an index it has already downloaded. What you type is never sent anywhere, not even to me.
Server logs
The site is served by Fly.io and the film by Cloudflare. Both keep ordinary web server logs, which record IP addresses, requested URLs, times and user agents, the way every web server has since 1993. They are used for keeping the thing running and nothing else. I do not analyse them, build profiles from them, or connect them to anything. They are not combined with any other source.
If you write to me
Mail to hello@288days.com reaches me through Cloudflare Email Routing. I keep correspondence so I can reply to it and remember what was said. I will not add you to a list, because there is no list. If you send photographs or a story for the film, nothing is used without asking you first, and everything used is credited.
There is exactly one thing you can sign up for: an email on the day the film is released. That is a message you send me, not a form, and it produces one reply on one day.
Selling and sharing
I do not sell or share personal information, and never have. There is no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link on this site because there is nothing to opt out of. No data broker, advertiser or analytics company receives anything from here, under any arrangement, paid or unpaid.
Your rights
California's CCPA and CPRA apply to businesses above certain size thresholds. This is one person making a free film, well under every one of them, so those laws do not formally reach this site. The same is broadly true of the GDPR, which reaches me only in so far as ordinary server logs are processed.
That is a technicality, and I would rather not hide behind it. So, regardless of whether any statute obliges me: write to me and ask what I hold about you, and I will tell you. Ask me to delete it, and I will. In practice the honest answer is usually that I hold nothing at all, because there is nothing here that collects it. If you have written to me, I hold that correspondence, and I will delete it on request.
Children
Nothing here is directed at children and nothing here collects information from anybody, so there is nothing to collect from a child either. The film is suitable for all audiences.
Changes
If any of this changes, the change is made here and the date at the top moves. If it ever changes in a way that matters, such as this site starting to collect something it does not collect today, it will be stated plainly at the top of this page rather than buried in it.
